Your child is registered for the race, but registered doesn't always mean "ready"! The course for this race is generally closed to the public, but we have been given the rare opportunity to preview it on August 5th and 12th. Come see the lake for yourself, check out the spectator viewing area, and more importantly, let your child get a taste of the course.
What Will We DO?
Your racer will be familiarized with race day set up and be able to swim and run on the course. I'll go over tips to help race day go smoothly. And we'll run through the flow of the race so your child will know what to expect. Questions will be answered. Fears will be relieved. Fun will be had!
What to Bring/What to Wear
Bring everything your child will need on race day -- EXCEPT the bike. This might include the following:
Your child should wear what he/she will wear on race day.
What Time and Where
US Space and Rocket Center. Follow the signs to Aviation Challenge and park in the lot outside the closed gate. Enter in through the gate that says "keep gate closed at all times" and follow the road up the small hill. Look to the left and you'll see the big "bubble"-that's where we'll start. We will start promptly at 1530 (that's 3:30pm for us civilians) on both days. The clinics will last no more than 2 hours.
What if I can't make it to the preview? I'm very sorry, but this facility is closed to the public. The next chance to see the course (but not be able to swim in the lake or run the race day route) will be at Packet Pick Up on Friday August 17th. Will we be biking the course at the preview? No. The bike course will not be closed to traffic the day of the preview therefore we will not be biking on this day. Can we drive the bike course? There are sections of the course that are locked therefore you will not be able to drive the entire course. What if I have more questions? Please feel free to contact me.
