It is with a very heavy heart that I have to deliver this news to you. I have decided to cancel the Kids Fly Tri this year.
Several things have happened to bring this cancellation. I was diagnosed with a rare brain disease at the beginning of April. At the time I was given a treatment plan and I was hopeful life would return to normal very quickly. That has not exactly been the case. I have been referred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and the appointment has been set for July 5th.
On top of that, I was told in early June my grandfather has only a few months to live thanks to cancer. I would very much like to spend as much time as possible with him and my grandmother before he is gone. I do not want that precious time to be consumed with race details.
I briefly considered asking someone else to come in to direct the race, but the core group of people I have been working with advised me strongly against that.
I have already begun to move forward with plans to make next year a banner year for this race. (Race date will be August 19th.) In the mean time, if you are looking for a race to finish out your 2016 season, stay tuned for a new race that will be launched in the very near future, Tri Blossomwood. It will be held on August 27th at Blossomwood Pool.
I am heartbroken that I have to cancel this race, but that heartbreak is a drop in the bucket compared to the factors that forced the decision to be made. I thank you in advance for your understanding and ask that you keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers in the coming months.
